You are going to be exploring Nerja? We take you to a perfect day filled with stunning beaches, delicious food, kayaking to waterfalls and enjoying the sunset! And if you are not located in Nerja during your visit to Costa del Sol, then you have to do at least a day trip because the beaches of Nerja are a gem of that region and not comparable.
Start your day off right with a budget-friendly breakfast at Coffee Mar which is hidden in a little Patio. This cozy café is a local favorite, known for its great coffee and delicious pastries. We had our breakfast there almost every morning for 4 days and you will most likely see locals eating and chatting. The town is small so you might see the waitress of your last night dinner. Enjoy a freshly brewed cup of coffee and a tasty homemade pastry or toast with tomato, jamón and olive oil – a traditional Spanish breakfast. We also had the anchovy avocado toast. But you can tell the friendly service to do you anything if it includes the toppings on the menu.
Prices: 2 Bocadillos, 1 piece of cake, 2 fresh orange juice and 2 hot drinks cost you around 15 €.
After breakfast, we headed to Burriana Beach for a kayaking adventure. We went with a guided kayak tour (Educare) that took us along the stunning cliffs and clear waters to the Maro waterfall. The views are spectacular, and the experience of paddling through the sea is exhilarating. When you reach the waterfall, you can take a refreshing swim in the crystal-clear waters if the weather condition allows it.
We booked the tour in advance at the internet but if you are on spot and buy the tickets directly from them, it’s cheaper! So we bought another tour the next day, this time a free tour.
Bring: swimsuit under your clothes, bring a waterproof bag for a camera, sunscreen, and protection for your head.
There are also lockers to lock some belongings, with a small cost.
Now it’s time to relax and soak up the sun at Playa Burriana. This beautiful beach is one of Nerja’s most popular spots, with golden sands and clear waters perfect for swimming. If you like it smaller and rockier, then just walk back in the direction of the Balcón de Europa and you will find three bays which are more natural. Personally, we liked them more!
Oh, it’s time to have an ice cream at that point!
Andalucía was once al-Andalus and has much influence of the arabic culture. You will find many restaurants, hammams or shops with crafts, clothing & arts. For an delicious dining experience, head to Teteria Riyad. This charming restaurant which has a beautifully decorated Patio, offers a unique Moroccan menu full of flavorful dishes. We had the Tajine – a slow-cooked stew bursting with spices, tender meat and plums. Jorge had French fries but the to get the authentic oriental taste, please have the rice which has flavors of cardamom and other spices.
Of course you can’t miss the Moroccan tea, which is served in a traditional tea-ware.
To digest the food, you can do a little walk through the narrow streets and you will find a lot of local shops with artisans, souvenirs
As the day winds down, make your way to Playa de Calahonda for a relaxing evening by the sea. This small, picturesque beach is less crowded than Burriana Beach, making it an ideal spot to unwind. Find a comfortable spot on the sand, lay out your towel, and enjoy the stunning sunset over the Mediterranean.
Bring a picnic with some local treats and a bottle of wine to enjoy as you watch the sunset.
Nerja is a perfect blend of natural beauty, adventure, and culinary delights. This day trip itinerary ensures you experience the best of what Nerja has to offer – from a budget-friendly breakfast and an adventurous kayak tour to relaxing on Playa Burriana and enjoying a mouthwatering dinner. So pack your bag, grab your sunscreen, and get ready for an unforgettable day in this Andalusian paradise while exploring nerja.
