Hey there, adventurer! If you’re planning a trip to Mijas, you’re in for a treat. This beautiful area on the Costa del Sol is made up of three main spots: Mijas Pueblo, Mijas Costa, and Mijas Golf. Each has its own vibe, so let’s dive into the top 5 things to do across Mijas!
First up, you’ve got to explore Mijas Pueblo. This old town is the heart of Mijas, with its winding cobblestone streets, whitewashed buildings, and vibrant flowers. Just strolling around here is like stepping into a postcard. It’s a small village but we discovered many new things every day. You have stunning views, can make your own chocolate at a chocolate museum, visit the bullring, dine with exceptional ambient, visit a chapel carved right into the rock or just have a nice walk or even a hike up to the mountains!
Besides the obvious Viewpoint, which is next to the Chapel, there are many more in the charming village. Two Miradores, which are even better at our opinion:
we think this is the best Mirador in Mijas Pueblo, especially by Sunset! If you are with a car, you might find easily a parking spot right there at the parking strip. It is not crowded, and many people don’t even go there because it looks like its not in the pueblo, but it is right at the top and you can overlook the mountains, Mijas and can see the Beach right in front of you!
We parked there and walked down to the white village. The way is an adventure itself. You will walk through narrow pathways, many steps and sometimes you think you are at a private property but that’s not the case. It is just a very unique neighborhood.
Not sure if this has a name but right above the hustle and bustle of the Plaza, is a Terrace or Balcony, which offers perfect views and enough space and seating possibilities (benches). You can walk up the stairs from the Plaza Virgen de la Peña and enjoy a beautiful view of the Pueblo and the beach in the background. We were almost alone and used this romantic place as a moment to practice our wedding dance.
If you have a sweet tooth like we do, then you shouldn’t miss these two places in Mijas Pueblo and La Cala de Mijas. The prices here are very budget friendly!
we found this bakery by walking down the streets. It has a very cozy and welcoming atmosphere, and they have a huge variety of cakes and sweets – unlike other bakeries in the area. During 5 days we have been there two times because my mum needed “good coffee”!
We even end up ordering 100 little sweets & 100 canapes just 4 days before our wedding and pool party afterwards…
up in the charming Mijas Pueblo there is this one modern Café which is directly next to the Plaza Virgen de la Peña. We were looking for Churros at late night and you maybe won’t believe it but there are almost no Churrerias open after 5pm. And the Churros here are super nice and the Chocolate sauce is a dream of chocolate lovers… During the day many Travel Buses will park nearby and that’s a little annoying but later in the day it is very calm.
There are fantastic spots to take a dip in the sea, enjoy local cuisine at the Chiringuitos or just relax with a good book. The beaches here are beautiful and perfect for a day of unwinding by the water. The water is calm, and the beaches are not packed with souvenir shops or hotels. Although if you like it more crowded, you have Fuengirola right next door!
Mijas Pueblo is renowned for its traditional Andalusian handicrafts. You’ll find a variety of items such as hand-painted ceramics, intricate lacework, and beautiful leather goods. Many of these crafts are made by local artisans, so you’re not only getting a unique item but also supporting the local community. You can also find art galleries with contemporary and classic arts. You can visit the Artisan Market (Mercadillo de los Artesanos) which is every Wednesday at Plaza Virgen de la Peña.
It’s a great place to find unique souvenirs and gifts or just get inspired.
But there are many more markets which we haven’t visited but you can check them out every season at the official Tourism Site of Mijas: https://turismo.mijas.es/es/compras/mercadillos
